SEO: Why is it Important?

So why is SEO so important?

You build a website or have a website built for you and that's it, right?

Eh, not so much.

If the website is not rich with content, search engines aren't going to have a lot to go on as far as how to categorize your site. The search engines need to be able to see what the site is about, the location it applies to, and it has to meet a number of points so it is indexed properly.

Why should you be indexed properly? Well, it has to do with being found. In order to bring in customers from the Internet, you have to be seen

Take this into consideration:

Nearly 80% of individuals are now using the Internet to find what they need. It doesn't matter if you sell your goods online or not; if you don't have a website, the competitor that does will get the business.

What are people looking for in a website?

  • They want to know what you offer
  • How to get a hold of you
  • Prices if listing them is beneficial
  • Your hours
  • Who the owners are
Answering every question that a visitor has is going to help them. This includes having content on the site that talks about your specialty.

For instance...

You may sell hair bows. Having articles on your site that talk about the different types of hair bows, which goes with a particular type of clothing, how important they are, and hair style tips will build the content needed to help the search engines define who you are. You will also find that your visitors absolutely love a site that gives them information.

If a person goes to Google and they type in "hair bow hairstyles" and your site comes up, they may suddenly become a customer although that was not their intention when they arrived on your site. They found the invitation, browsed the type of inventory you carry, found something they liked, and ordered a hair bow off of you. Because you gave them the information they needed and exposed them to your inventory, you most likely have a repeat customer.

Even in product descriptions, it is best to answer the questions in a person's mind. Those descriptions, like articles, also need to contain relevant keywords so the search engines pick up on them.

Other tasks include link building, sharing through social networks, blogging, and various other tasks that will optimize your website to the point it climbs through the rankings. The higher it is served to searchers on the search engine results page (SERP), the more likely you are to obtain new customers.

If you don't have time to do the search engine optimization yourself, then you can use an SEO company to help you. Just make sure you aren't being guaranteed instant results. SEO is a process and one that requires maintenance even after you achieve top ranking. But with the right company, you will achieve a return on your investment and then some.
